Abstract
This article concerns the right to object to the processing of personal data in artificial intelligence systems, with a particular focus on generative AI systems. Providers of artificial intelligence systems and foundation models rely on legitimate interests as a legal basis for the processing of personal data for the development and training of AI systems. This is indicated as the basis for the processing of both personal data collected from publicly available online sources and data of users of these tools concerning their use. Accordingly, data subjects have the right to object to the processing of their personal data for the purpose of developing AI systems. The article discusses the information on the right to object contained in the privacy policies of selected generative AI providers and the objection mechanisms implemented by these providers.
