Abstract
Over 30 years have elapsed since Convention 108 for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data was opened for signing. Given the rapidly increasing practices of gathering and using personal data in the new digital environment, it was decided to review the provisions of the Convention in order to adapt them better to the new challenges and strengthen protection of data subjects. The article comprehensively discusses planned changes of the Convention which are currently elaborated by the Council of Europe.
