Abstract

The purpose of this article is to discuss the evolution of the rules how to use cookies between 2010 and 2021 in the guidelines and opinions of the Article 29 Working Party and the European Data Protection Board, including:- dividing cookies into those the installation of which on the end device requires or does not require consent of the user;- requirements for obtaining valid consent to install cookies, and- other material issues addressed in the guidelines or opinions.
