Abstract

The purpose of this article is to determine how the essence of employee loyalty in the employment relationship should actually be understood. The starting point is to define the very essence of loyalty as an ethical value and determine its relational nature. Determining the above allows for considerations focusing on determining the mutual relationship between the concepts of employee loyalty and the concern for the good of the workplace. The author points out that caring for the good of the workplace cannot be equated with caring for the good of the employer, de facto allowing the employee to remain loyal to the workplace as an organization, contrary to particular interests of the person representing the employer. Finally, the author also analyses the external manifestation of employee loyalty, i.e. maintaining loyalty to the employer’s contractor, which also brings benefits to the employer themself in the long term.
