Abstract

The Data Act introduces new obligations for the automotive sector, including the requirement to share data generated by connected products (e.g., vehicles) and related services (e.g., apps). From 12 September 2025, data holders are required to share both raw and pre-processed data, which poses an organizational and technological challenge. This article discusses the key obligations arising from the regulation and highlights the most important issues that vehicle manufacturers and data holders need to address. Given the diverse market interests and emerging differences in interpretation, intense debate is expected around implementation and application of the new rules within the automotive sector.
