Abstract

Nowadays, in the information society, online platforms not only provide entertainment, but have become a modern agora - a space for debate, for sharing ideas and information, and for pursuing political aims. The challenges of disinformation and illegal content motivate today’s legislators to create a safe online environment, which is by no means a simple task. Balancing freedom of speech and facing disinformation is becoming a major challenge that the European Union is trying to face up to. The article compares platform regulations and DSA regulations. However, practice shows that platforms handle freedom of speech differently and the algorithms used can lead to a growth of personal censorship under the pretence of legitimate moderation.
