Abstract

The article is aimed to present disinformation in the context of the application of the Digital Services Act, using the recent escalation of the armed conflict between Hamas and Israel as an example.
The paper focuses on the Commission proceedings regarding X/Twitter, which was initiated on 8 December 12023 and is of a pioneering nature.
The article emphasises the fact that X/Twitter is being used for purposes inconsistent with fundamental rights, in particulae for spreading disinformation, terrorist content, violent content, and hate speech.
The article places the X/Twitter proceedings in a broader context of international security. The aim is to highlight the threats arising from the passive approach to combating disinformation in the the situation of non-compliance of the activities of social media platforms with the EU law.
