Abstract
Minors have been benefiting from the development of information and communication technologies. The stepped up activity of the youngest in the digital environment exposes minors to new risks that potentially threaten their rights and freedoms. These risks include exposure to harmful content, such as inappropriate material, violation of privacy through excessive collection or sharing of data, and overuse of online platforms, which can lead to addictive behaviours. To guarantee children’s participation in the digital environment appropriate for their age and cognitive abilities, the EU legislator has introduced new requirements for intermediary service providers under the Digital Services Act aimed at ensuring safety and privacy of minors online. The article analyses selected solutions which are meant to empower minors as recipients of intermediary services.
