Abstract
The article presents issues relating to the future of Polish criminal proceedings. The author presents his own opinion on issues which are supposed to be crucial for the vision of criminal proceedings and its functioning in legal practice. The considerations include the following aspects: social expectations, criminal policy, as well as the procedural and and substantive criminal law provisions. The author claims that a desirable direction for future legislation in this field should be based on two main ideas: the adversarial and the consensual model of criminal process.
