Abstract

Introduction of the strong customer authentication in PSD2 constitutes one of the key areas for increasing electronic payment services security. It should be applied when payment is initiated electronically, when the customer accesses the account online or when another remote transaction is carried out which may involve the risk of abuse. The legislator allows for the use of biometrics for the purposes of strong authentication. This technique may significantly affect the level of payment service security and contribute to development of innovative solutions. The law provides for a number of requirements with respect to using biometric technologies by payment service providers.
