Abstract
The last provisions of the Law on Association of 7 April 1989 amended in the autumn of 2015 came into force as of 1 January 2017. In the current state of the law the regulations of Chapter IV introduce the possibility of transforming an ordinary association into a registered one. As a result, those solutions significantly differ from the previous state of law with a view to the fact that so far the Law on Associations did not provide for any transformation of the forms of public participation. It is characteristic that the process of transformation of a simplified form of association includes a change of the legal formula of an ordinary association by striking it off from the list and continuing its activities in a new juridical structure, i.e. an association with legal personality with the simultaneous keeping of its substantive identity (the same but not identical association). The article presents legal aspects of the new institution of transformation as well as controversies that were raised during the legislative work on the amending statute.
