A configurator as a multimedia tool of a creative proces

Abstract

This article attempts to establish and describe such features of a multimedia configurator which may prove relevant to the copyright status of the works developed using such tool. The analysis focuses on the features which – due to required “originality” and “uniqueness” of each copyright protected work – may limit or induce the user’s ability to create copyright protected material. Therefore, a particular inquiry is made into the effect of a multimedia configurator on the creative process. As a result, the article outlines the conditions under which the nature of a particular creative process might be established basing not necessarily on the features of the work developed using a configurator, but on the features of the configurator itself, as well as the circumstances which may link the creative process with the configurator so closely as to bar any “originality” and render all work thus developed not suitable for copyright protection.
