Abstract
Verification of a person’s ID is an important process from the viewpoint of commercial reliability, in particular when all transactions between the contracting parties are carried out remotely. The legislator does not provide for a closed catalogue of ID verification means that could be used for each type of a legal relationship between the parties. Currently, there are many methods for confirming the identity of a person, from the most basic ones such as the simple presentation of their data by a person, signing a document by hand, signing a document electronically, confirmation of identity by a third party, to the use of individual personal features in the form of biometric data.Verification of identity is of crucial importance from the viewpoint of the correct performance of a contract by the contracting parties and lending credibility to a natural person’s being capable of entering into legal transactions. It should be noticed, at the same time, that failure to carry out the ID verification process correctly may bear utmost consequences for both contracting parties – for this reason verification of identity is required both before a contract is concluded and in the course of its performance.
