Abstract
The act harmonizing Polish personal data protection laws with the GDPR has introduced a number of changes as regards the principles of personal data processing by advocates and legal councillors in connection with legal assistance they provide. Although it has not been laid down forthright in the provisions, the entirety of the regulations leads to a conclusion that advocates and legal councillors have been recognized as controllers of personal data processed to that end. At the same time, certain obligations to be fulfilled by those entities have been limited so as to allow effective provision of legal assistance at the same time respecting the right to personal data protection. Also the period for which advocates and legal councillors should keep personal data processed under the exercise of their professional duties has been indicated.
