Abstract

The article presents the concept of the court of the future, which should be based on information technology. It discusses differences between computerization and informatization, as well as solutions currently being implemented in Poland in the area of informatization of court proceedings (electronic writ-of-payment proceedings and electronic registry office). It also outlines development prospects of the judiciary thanks to the use of expert systems and artificial intelligence. Two models of IT systems application have been discussed: using them to prepare a draft judgement for a judge or to replace a judge. The article concludes with a discusion concerning compliance of the proposed solutions with the constitutional right to trial.
