Abstract
The article discusses the duty of confidence of employees of the Institute of National Remembrance – Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes against the Polish Nation (IPN). The responsibilities of the IPN, its legal position and regulations concerning its President have been briefly outlined. The substantive and objective scope of the duty of confidence has been indicated as provided for in the regulations concerning IPN employees, its President, members of the Council and prosecutors employed at the Institute. Powers of the IPN President as to shaping the scope of information covered by the duty of confidence have been described. Having outlined the scope of information gathered and kept by the Institute and those to which IPN employees have access, the article analyses the principles and procedure for granting access to information collected at the IPN.
